Northbound I-405 in Bellevue cut to single lane weekend nights

BELLEVUE  – Drivers should prepare for late evening and early morning congestion this weekend when northbound I-405 through Bellevue is reduced to a single-lane while construction crews demolish and replace dozens of concrete panels.

The three left lanes between Southeast 8th Street and State Route 520 will be closed overnight on Friday and Saturday.

The lanes close nightly at 10 p.m.

By 6 a.m. each day, one of the closed lanes will reopen, with all lanes open by 9 a.m.

The northbound HOV exit to Northeast 6th Street will be closed from 10 p.m. Friday to 9 a.m. Saturday. It will be open on Saturday night. The Northeast 6th Street HOV on-ramp to northbound I-405 will be closed both nights from 10 p.m. until 9 a.m.

Drivers are encouraged to use the Washington State Department of Transportation’s Seattle traffic map to check real-time road conditions, download the WSDOT mobile app for cell phones and other wireless devices or call 5-1-1.

During the closure, the construction crews will break up and remove nearly three dozen panels which are approaching 50 years old and at the end of their lifespan.

During a weekend closure on July 13-14, more than 500 panels were replaced and drivers are already enjoying a smoother ride. A second weekend-long closure of all northbound lanes is scheduled for August 10-11.
