The fight started at 4:10 p.m. after a man approached a group in Sylvester Park, a popular park located in the downtown area, the Olympian reported. Witnesses to the fight told the Olympian that the group of 10 or 11 people quickly appeared to beat the approaching man and forced him to the ground.
At some point, the man allegedly stabbed a member of the group and managed to take off. He was chased to a bus stop near the intersection of Capitol Way and Legion Way, but a group prevented him from getting on the bus and he was taken into police custody. The stabbing victim allegedly ran off, but was found in a train tunnel adjacent to the Governor Hotel. He was taken to an area hospital in serious condition.
When the man was taken into custody, police noticed he too had a small stab wound. It is unclear if he got the wound from the initial altercation or when he was trying to get on the bus.
There were also unconfirmed reports of a third stab victim.
The Washington State Patrol is in charge of monitoring the park and troopers are investigating the stabbings.
