Kiddie cards: Library debuts kid-designed cards

Megan Cannon's library card design will be one of two featured on the new Pierce County Library cards.

TACOMA -- Two Pierce County students will be the featured artists on new Pierce County Library System cards this fall.

More than 7,000 ballots were cast in a three-week online vote to select the top design from students in kindergarten through sixth grade and seventh through 12th grade.

Megan Cannon, 11, from Puyallup and Katie Howard, 17, were announced as the winners.

Cannon's watercolor design includes a background script with book quotes and two giant flowers growing above the word "READ." Howard's digital design features an owl reading a book.

The winning designs will appear on new library cards during the library's seventh annual card drive in October. The artists' names will appear on the printed cards.

Katie Howard's winning design entry will also be featured on new library cards.
