Police said that an officer observed the 2002 Chevy Avalanche SUV speeding on Rainier Avenue South around 2:15 a.m.
The SUV nearly collided with the officer’s patrol car as it sped past. A few moments later officers located the SUV, which had crashed into a building at Rainier Avenue South and South Charlestown Street.
The impact of the collision caused significant damaged to the building, which housed two small restaurants, police said. The crash trapped both the driver and passenger and Seattle Fire Department crews had to cut them out of the SUV before they were transported by medics to Harborview Medical Center. Police determined that the SUV was reported stolen.
The driver, a 26-year-old man, and the passenger, a 22-year-old woman, suffered non life-threatening injuries.
