SR 99 reopens early

SEATTLE -- The Department of Transportation reopened a portion of SR 99 in Seattle to traffic, ahead of schedule on Sunday.

SDOT crews reopened southbound SR 99 around midnight Sunday, and then reopened northbound SR 99 at 4 a.m.

The stretch of SR 99 had been closed since Friday night for demolition work on the West Phase of the Mercer Corridor project.  The early reopening was possible due to work crews completing demolition work on the east side of the SR 99 bridge over Mercer Street, SDOT said.

SDOT said Mercer Street will remain closed through 5 a.m. Monday as crews finish hauling bridge debris from the roadway. For alternate route information while Mercer Street is closed, go here.
