flagSEATTLE —  Brought to smiles and tears as the “Star Spangled Banner” played, 487 of the nation’s newest patriots took the oath of office on Independence Day Thursday.

It was also an emotional ceremony for Gov. Jay Inslee, according to The Seattle Times.

His cousin, Jennifer Inslee, married a Vietnamese woman in April at the governor’s mansion. Star Rush, 45, was among those sworn in at the ceremony.

The new U.S. citizens come from 86 countries; most of them hail from South Korea, the Philippines and Mexico.

Our daughter-in-law was one of the 54 Filipinos sworn in today. We are so proud of her. Welcome to our family and congrats. We love you.

I’m curious why Inslee cousin didn’t have to go through the long process for citizenship if they were married in April. It takes years to be sworn in when applying for citizenship through marriage along with constant interviews with ins/ ice. Oh the privileged life that has been obtained through status.
