Headaches on 4th of July -- and not from the noise

SEATTLE -- A variety of road closures around the Puget Sound could cramp up one's 4th of July holiday if not properly prepared.

Here are some of the area road closures:

July 4 --  SEATTLE: At approximately 9 p.m., Washington State Department of Transportation crews will begin closing the following:

The closures will be complete by 10 p.m. The ramps and lane will reopen at the conclusion of the fireworks display.

Drivers should also keep in mind that July 4 is a very popular day for boating and the State Route 520 bridge drawspan will open with 2 hour prior notice.

BELLEVUE -- The fireworks display begins at 10:05 p.m. and will be accompanied by a live performance of the Bellevue Youth Symphony Orchestra.

Before the fireworks, at approximately 9:45 p.m., some streets near Downtown Park will be closed to vehicle traffic: Northeast Fourth Street, from 100th Avenue to Bellevue Way; and 100th Avenue Northeast, between Northeast First to Northeast Fifth streets. After the fireworks, the following road restrictions will be put in place to help clear traffic leaving downtown:

July 5 -8 -- Over the weekend, Mercer Corridor Project crews will demolish the east side of the SR 99 bridge over Mercer Street. SR 99 and Mercer Street will be fully closed to traffic beginning Friday, July 5 at 11:00 p.m. to Monday, July 8 at 5:00 a.m.

SR 99 will be fully closed between Valley Street and the southern end of the Battery Street Tunnel. Traffic traveling through Seattle via SR 99 will be directed to I-5 north of Seattle at 85th Street or south of Seattle at E Marginal Way and Spokane Street.
