Accused killer's ‘random’ shooting spree kills 15-year-old girl, police say

mollyCAPTURE UPDATE July 1, 2013 -- The Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office arrested 26 year old, Erick Walker, for the murder of Molly Conley on Friday night. He was arrested at his home in Marysville. Probable cause documents released by the Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office detail the events leading up to the arrest of Erick N. Walker, 26, of Marysville in the shooting death of Conley. The documents allege the Conley shooting was just one of several shots fired at different, apparently random targets by Walker. Police said Walker acted alone and did not know Conley, or any of the other homes or targets he allegedly shot at.

“We believe this was random,” Lt. Brent Speyer of the Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office said. Walker is expected to be charged with one count of first-degree murder, four counts of drive-by shooting, and five counts of second-degree assault. He is in Snohomish County Jail awaiting charges. Walker wasn’t believed to have any gang affiliations, but did own an array of guns. KILLER WANTED IN LAKE STEVENS June 1st, 2013 -- Detectives working to find out who murdered 15 year old Molly Conley in Lake Stevens -- have a new request for help. They want anyone who was driving on the road the night Molly was shot by someone in a car to contact them. As investigators work around the clock, Molly's dad, John, says he is still hoping detectives get the tip they need to solve her murder. He took video on a trip with his daughter in Ireland. Molly had just turned 13. She always had a smile. At school, Molly was a straight ‘A’ student, and full of empathy, the glue that held her friends together. One classmate says, “She just made me laugh and would tell me jokes. She was just a kind-hearted person. She'll be missed." She played basketball, knocked around boys at lacrosse, and was a soccer star -- a goalie who knew how to take charge. Her dad says that sums up who she was, fierce in a good way, in a competitive way, but so gentle too. She loved Irish dancing and drama. She played ‘Sandy’ in Little Orphan Annie. She also spent hours with her mom caring for foster babies. "She's just one of those people that walks in a room and people just smile,” her dad says. This girl with so many interests grew up a tomboy, and was quickly becoming a beautiful young woman. She was celebrating her 15th birthday with her friends when she was shot and killed. Thousands of classmates, friends and family packed Our Lady of Fatima Church and Bishop Blanchet High School for her prayer service and funeral. Her burial was private. Family and friends adorned her casket with flowers as they said goodbye. “Our world was shattered. It changed us and it's part of us,” says Molly’s dad. Molly was walking along South Lake Stevens Road the night she was murdered. There’s a lot of traffic there, with cars and trucks going back and forth. Detectives say somebody driving on that road that night might hold the key to solving her murder. Investigators with Snohomish County's Major Crimes Unit are tracking down every lead. Det. Brad Pince has been handing out flyers throughout the community. He says a reverse 911 call has given them some new information. “We`re asking anybody that was driving in this area on June 1st between 10:45 pm and 11:30 pm to contact the Sheriff`s Office. We would like to talk to you." Det. Pince feels the important piece of the puzzle is going to come from the public. “I don`t want people to assume that any information that they have is not going to be valuable to us, let us make that determination.” At the Conley home, upstairs in Molly’s room, it’s still just like she left it. Her bed unmade. Her room filled with all the stuff a teenager holds dear. There’s a gift on her bed, because she was coming home for her birthday. It was a dress she wanted. On the walls, posters from the ‘Hunger Games’ and ‘Harry Potter’. On her bookshelf, a photo with Alan Alda, the star of M.A.S.H. She was a huge fan. Her dad says, “Molly`s Hawkeye in a lot of ways.” She hoped to help people someday, maybe as a surgeon or a forensic pathologist. Molly touched a lot of lives. John is grateful to Det. Pince and all the investigators working on his daughter's case, and to the public who's shown so much support. "They aren't just angry that this happened in their community. They are sincerely saddened and grieving for Molly, someone who they didn't know." The last picture her dad took of her was on May 31st, her birthday. She visited her great-grandfather's grave. He was a Rough Rider in the Marines. She was a Roughrider for Roosevelt-Blanchet Lacrosse. A brave young woman now resting next to him. Molly’s dad says, "We're going to find out who this was, and we're going to find out exactly why, and we're going be sure that this doesn't happen to anybody else." There is a $34,000 reward for information that leads to finding Molly’s murderer.
