Q: Is it a good idea to follow a fugitive from a certain distance, so you can call 911 and tell them where they are? — Tyler

A: Well Tyler, I have to tell you that that is a great idea. We ask that you get a great clothing description and suspect description. We want to make sure we’ve got the right person we’re looking for. The one cautionary note, of course, is don’t put yourself in harms way. So, when you’re thinking about a safe distance to follow someone, do what’s comfortable for you, try not to be too obvious. Generally speaking, a quick call to 911 is very helpful.” — Seattle police Sgt. Sean Whitcomb
