Boy escapes by hiding under car from luring suspect

PUYALLUP -- A 16-year-old boy said he ran from a luring suspect and hid under a car to get away. The incident happened Friday night in Puyallup and has many parents in the area on edge.

Charles Stuber cherishes every moment he spends with his little girl, Makala.

A recent child luring attempt in his Puyallup neighborhood has him on edge.

According to police, the boy was walking near the corner of East Pioneer and 13th Street SE in Puyallup, when he was confronted by a man who told him to get into his car.

The boy said no and took off when the man chased him. The boy ran down an alley  to get away and hid under a vehicle and watched as the suspect's van drove away.

The luring attempt happened just feet away from the school Adrianne Keeler's son will attend next year.

"He just asked, 'Hey, can I walk with my friends to school?' We live so close. It’s the reason why we moved here. Absolutely not,” Keeler said.

The suspect is described as a black man in his 20s or 30s, with a scruffy beard and a blue gauge earring. He was driving a green camper-style van with tinted windows. The license plate started with the letter ‘A’.

Stuber says he will keep an eye out for the guy.

"If you commit a crime against a child, you deserve to go to jail for the rest of your life,” he said.

And, he will always be one step behind little Makala.

Stuber said, "I don't let my daughter go out and play at all unless I can see her or physically get to her because things have just gotten pretty crazy out there. You really have to watch your children.”
