Attempted luring victim: 'It could have been bad. Really, really bad'

PUYALLUP -- The victim of an attempted luring incident in Puyallup talked Sunday night about his frightening experience.

Austin Terry, 16, said he was walking home from the store around 10:30 p.m. Friday when a black man pulled up next to him in a van and told him to get in. Terry said no,  but the man responded, "Then we're going to have a problem," the boy said.

Terry ran off, but the driver made a U-turn in the middle of the road and started to chase him, he said. He ran as fast as he could through an alley and hid underneath a truck as the man drove by looking for him. Terry waited for a few moments to make sure the guy was gone and then ran home to tell his dad what happened.

“I was really hoping that he didn’t see me,” Terry said. “That would have been really scary. I can’t think of what would happen if he saw me. It could have been bad. Really, really bad.”

The suspect is described as a black man in his 20s or 30s. He has a scruffy beard and blue gauge earrings. He was driving a green van with tinted windows and the license plate begins with the letter ‘A’

Austin Terry’s dad, Jim, said he son has been affected by the incident and has been unusually jumpy. But he's glad his son is home and wasn't injured.
