A whale of a carcass washes up on Washington beach

OCEAN SHORES, Wash. -- A police came upon a big surprise Thursday morning while patrolling a Washington beach.

According to local radio station KXRO, the police officer found a dead whale on a beach about four miles north of Ocean Shores. The whale -- most likely a blue whale -- is 53 feet long.

Officials with the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife will perform a necropsy of the animal to discover cause of death. Interested residents will also be able to view the animal during the investigation.
