PORTLAND (KPTV) - Some looked away while others couldn't help but stare as World Naked Bike Ride bicyclists swarmed the streets of Portland late Saturday night.

According to their website, the ride is an annual event that "highlights the vulnerability of cyclists everywhere and decries society's dependence on pollution-based transport."

Perhaps not surprisingly, the website also says Portland has the world's largest ride.

Extra police officers were brought in to help with traffic control as bicyclists rode from the South Park blocks through downtown to the neighborhoods of north and southeast Portland.

Police also encouraged that all riders, at a bare minimum, at least wear a helmet and shoes to avoid any potential injuries, and to wear bike lights.
