Furry 5K raises money for needy animals

Dogs of all shapes and sizes participated in the Furry 5K run/walk today at Seward Park.

SEATTLE- Dog lovers were out in full force today for the "Furry 5K run/walk" to benefit the Seattle Animal Shelter's "Help the Animals Fund" today at Seward Park.

Each year, the run attracks thousands of two-legged runners and their four-legged friends.

The "Help the Animals Fund" was created in 1977 to pay for life-saving veterinary care for sick, injured and abused animals at the shelter. The Furry 5K was started in 1999 to raise money for the fund, as well as raise awareness about responsible pet ownership.

More than 3,000 people and 1,500 dogs were expected at this year's race.
