Overturned semi blocks SB I-405



SEATTLE -- An overturned semi blocked all southbound lanes of Interstate 405 near the intersection of State Route 167 Tuesday morning, the Washington State Department of Transportation said.

The crash involved four vehicles and was located near Oakesdale Avenue on I-405 in between Exit 1 and Exit 2. WSDOT Traffic tweeted at 7:20 a.m. traffic was expected to be stalled for some time. As of 8 a.m., traffic was backed up for at least three miles. Northbound traffic was also affected.

Traffic was being rerouted off I-405 on to Rainier Avenue and SR 176. Surface streets near the accident saw backup by 8 a.m.

A front loader truck pushed the semi to the side of the road and a couple of lanes were opened a short time later. All lanes were reopened by 10 a.m.



The driver of the semi was uninjured. According to WSP, the driver of the semi had an unknown distraction inside his cab, and he was cited for an negligent driving in traffic conditions.

The semi truck reportedly carried bread 40,000 lbs. of bread and was leaking diesel fuel.
