Gasoline prices holding steady for Memorial Day weekend

SEATTLE - The average price for a gallon of gasoline this holiday weekend is about the same price as last year.  Patrick DeHaan, senior petroleum analyst for GasBuddy.com told Fox Business that gas prices are right on a par with last year rates.  The national average is $3.68 per gallon of regular unleaded gas compared to last year's price of $3.65 per gallon, DeHaan said.

According to GasBuddy.com this year's price of $3.68 per gallon is more than double what it was in 2000.  DeHaan said that gasoline will cost more in the nation's midsection, which he says is more sensitive to price range.  With higher prices, fewer people will be driving in the midwest, DeHaan said.

Three tips that drivers can use before they fuel up this weekend:

1) Shop around and plan ahead.

2) Watch your speed.

3) Limit idling and AC use.
