'This defendant is a poster child for the felony DUI law'

TACOMA- Pierce County Prosecutor Mark Lindquist charged James R. Door, 48, with Felony DUI, Driving with a suspended license in the first degree, and driving without required ignition interlock device.

According to Lindquist, the DUI charge is a felony because Door has four prior DUI convictions in the past ten years.

"This defendant is a poster child for the felony DUI law," Lindquist said. "A person who continues to put the public at risk by driving drunk after four previous DUI convictions needs to be held accountable at a felony level."

In the latest DUI case, a Puyallup police offcer said Door could barely get out of his car for a field sobriety test, which he ultimately failed. Door pleaded not guilty to the felony DUI charge Wednesday.  Bail was set at $150,000.

Door has more than 10 other felony convictions, Lindquist said. He's also wanted for failing to appear in court on a 2012 vehicle theft case.
