Teen arrested for vehicular assault after early morning rollover

capturePIERCE COUNTY -- A teenage girl was taken to the hospital Thursday morning after a car she was riding in rolled over near Puyallup, Washington State Patrol said.

Officers said that shortly after 3 a.m., a vehicle traveling northbound on River Road East and approaching 50th Avenue East lost control, veered off the roadway and rolled over.

There were five females inside the car, 15 to 17 years old. All of the passengers were wearing seat belts, and troopers believe that saved the girls' lives.

Sgt. Ray Schierhoff said that the 17-year-old driver had been drinking and one of the passengers suffered non-life threatening injuries. Officers believe the girls were coming from the Tacoma waterfront when the accident happened.

The driver has been taken into custody for investigation of vehicular assault.
