Seahawks hire ex-Browns exec Matt Thomas as VP for football administration

seahawks296x122RENTON, Wash. — The Seattle Seahawks have hired Matt Thomas as vice president of football administration, the team announced Friday. Thomas replaces John Idzik, who was named general manager of the New York Jets last week.

“Matt is a well-respected salary-cap expert and was recommended by many top-ranking NFL executives,” said Seahawks General Manager John Schneider. “I am excited to welcome him to our football family.”

Thomas joins Seattle after spending the previous three seasons with the Cleveland Browns in the same capacity. He began his NFL career in 1998 with the Miami Dolphins and spent 12 seasons with the club, spending 2009 as vice president/general counsel & football administration.

He is a graduate of the University of Denver, University of South Dakota School of Law and the New York University School of Law.

    Today, I went to the beachfront with my kids. I found a sea shell and gave it to my 4 year old
    daughter and said “You can hear the ocean if you put this to your ear.” She put
    the shell to her ear and screamed. There was a hermit
    crab inside and it pinched her ear. She never wants to go back!
