Rotating emergency homeless shelter opens in Lake City

SEATTLE -- The Lake City Task Force on Homelessness has partnered with three neighborhood churches and Seattle's Union Gospel Mission to open an emergency winter shelter in Lake City. The rotating shelter will provide sleeping accommodations for up to 30 men and women at each location and operate from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m., seven days a week.

Last year, the Mission operated an emergency winter shelter in an old fire station located in Lake City. That property wasn't available this year, so the Lake City Task Force and the Mission looked into other possibilities to help local homeless men and women.

The rotating emergency shelter locations and dates are:

Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, 14514 20th Ave. NE in Shoreline from Jan 7-27

Seattle Mennonite Church, 3120 NE 125th St. in Seattle from Jan. 28-Feb. 17

Lake City Baptist Church, 2441 NE 125th St. in Seattle from Feb. 17-Mar. 15

The Union Gospel Mission also helps operate shelters throughout King County.
