King County school resource officer saved student's life

KENT -- King County medics are honoring a school resource officer for saving a student's life.

Officer Scott Rankin saw 16-year-old Xavier Hunter going into cardiac arrest in the hallway between classes Nov. 6 at Kent-Meridian High School. He grabbed his department-issued automated external defibrillator. He sent a charge through Hunter’s system and then performed CPR, allowing firefighters and medics to get there in time to save Hunter’s life.

His mom says that with Rankin’s aid, Hunter would have died.
