SEATTLE — On Westlake Avenue, just past South Lake Union Park, drivers may have noticed two huge logs sitting on the waters’ edge.

With the help of the Center for Wooden Boats and local canoe carver Saaduuts, the logs are being made into canoes. But the canoes are more than just recreation; they are helping to carve out a cultural bridge.

The canoes can take up to two years before they are seaworthy.

The carvers invite anyone to come to South Lake Union Park to give it a whack.
