Do I have to remove the magazine in my firearm when I get into a car?

Q: If I open carry a firearm and get into a vehicle, do I have to remove the magazine in order to be legal while in the vehicle? -- Chris, Spanaway A: In the state of Washington, open carry is legal but you do have to be cautious when you're inside your vehicle. The law currently states you need to make sure there are no bullets inside the handgun, so the chamber is empty, the magazine is removed and unloaded in order to have that inside your vehicle. Please make sure you do a lot of research into that law so you comply with the different aspects compared to the state's concealed pistol license regulation. -- Washington State Patrol Trooper Julie Judson
