Missing Bonney Lake teen found

MALIIKAANDRUSSEATTLE – Maliika Andrus, 17, was found Tuesday morning by the Auburn Police Department, who received a call that she was at a Starbucks. She was taken to a hospital for evaluation and will be released back to the group home later today, police said.

Andrus was reported missing early in the morning of Sunday, Aug. 18 and was believed to have walked away from a group home in the 18400 block of South Tapps Drive East.

Staff members believe she tampered with an alarm on her bedroom window and fled the facility at 6:35 a.m. Sunday. She had been recently placed at the group home and is not familiar with the Bonney Lake area.

Search for missing teen to resume

Andrus,jpgBONNEY LAKE, Wash. — Search crews suspended their daylong search for a missing mentally challenged teen that was suspended Sunday at nightfall.

Crews are expected to resume the search for the girl in Bonney Lake at daybreak. Authorities said Maliika Andrus, 17, has been missing for nearly 24 hours. Andrus is reported to have the mental capacity of someone half her age and is not able to take care of herself for long periods of time.

She was last seen at a Bonney Lake group home at 6:20 a.m. Sunday. She escaped out of her bedroom window and is only wearing her pajamas. She relies on medication and authorities fear she might try to hurt herself.

Andrus was last seen wearing a black shirt and multi-colored pajama pants. If you see her, please call 911.

BONNEY LAKE — Her name is Maliika Andrus. She’s 17-years-old, but is said to have the mental capacity of a nine-year-old.

Andrus was last seen around 6:20 a.m. Sunday at a group home in the 18400 block of South Tapps Drive East.

Staff members believe she tampered with the alarm on her bedroom window and walked away in her pajamas. She is not familiar with the Bonney Lake area and needs medication. The is a fear that she may also try to hurt herself.

When we get to the point that we’ve exhausted everything, we can we go to the media because she may be sitting in somebody’s house or somebody may see her and not know she’s missing,” Pierce County Sheriff’s detective Ed Troyer said.

Andrus was last seen wearing a black shirt and multicolored striped pajama pants.

She is 5-feet,6 inches tall and weighs 115 pounds. She wears her hair in braids and has brown eyes.

Anyone who has seen Andrus or know where she is asked call 911.

She was last seen by staff members around 6:20 a.m.

Staff believes Andrus tampered with an alarm on her bedroom window and left the facility at 6:35 a.m.

Detective Troyer said Andrus was recently placed at the group home and is not familiar with the Bonney Lake area. 

Search and Rescue teams have combed the area around the group home with search dogs, but have been unable to find Andrus. 

Maliika Andrus is a black female, 17 years old, 5’6″, 115 Ibs., with black hair worn in braids and brown eyes. 

She was last seen wearing a black shirt and multi-colored striped pajama pants.

Andrus has the mental capacity of a 9 year old and reportedly may attempt to harm herself.
