Roadside assistance: smart buy or waste of cash?

It happens to everyone, some time or other: a flat tire, an empty gas tank, a dead battery, a locked door - and suddenly your car goes from a means of transportation to a source of frustration.  Unfortunately, these problems rarely happen at a convenient time, and roadside assistance can come in handy.

Craig Kehrberg, from Pemco Insurance, says the trick is to shop around and find a product that works for you.  If you are looking for perks like help with travel planning and the occasional discount, AAA is a good option.  But if you just want basic roadside assistance, check with the insurance company you already have, because it may offer some roadside services like towing.
