2 men in different cars hit by gunfire while driving on highways near Southcenter Mall

TUKWILA, Wash. -- Two men in two different cars were hit by gunfire Monday night while driving on the highways in the Southcenter Mall area, Tukwila police said.

Neither person has life-threatening injuries, police said.

"Officers were dispatched to the report of multiple gunshots in the vicinity of the I-405/SR518 interchange" shortly after 7 p.m. Monday, Tukwila police said in a news release. "Responding officers located a male victim in his 50s in his vehicle who had been struck in the arm by gunfire. The victim's injuries were non-life threatening ... and he was transported by ambulance to the hospital for treatment.

"A second victim’s vehicle was located on I-405 northbound near the West Valley Hwy exit. This victim is a male in his 20s that was struck by gunfire in the leg and suffered non-life threatening injuries. A passerby discovered the victim and transported him to the hospital for treatment," police said.

 



Tukwila police spokesman Victor Masters  said the shooter, who fired from a moving car, sped off and was not found.

Masters said police the shooting of the victim near SR 518 was random, and they were still investigating whether the shooting of the second man was also random or if he was targeted.

The report of gunfire first came in at about 7:09 p.m. police said.

Masters said there were passengers in both cars that were hit by gunfire.
