Large-scale search operations end for Texas woman who disappeared at Sunset Falls

INDEX, Wash -- Large-scale search operations were called off Wednesday afternoon for a 25-year-old Texas woman who disappeared Tuesday night at Sunset Falls on the Skykomish River, the Snohomish County Sheriff's Office said.

While large-scale search operations were ended, county Search and Rescue (SAR) personnel will continue "an evidence-based search of the area, as well as regular spot checks of the river shoreline," the office said in a news release.

The woman was from Texas and was with family at the river, sheriff's office spokeswoman Shari Ireton said. Her family reported her missing after she disappeared from the rock she was sitting on, she added.

"She was reported to have fallen in the river just before 8 p.m." Tuesday, the county sheriff's office said. "Snohawk1 searched the river for an about an hour and fire units were on scene with rescue teams."

The helicopter and marine units search the falls and the river Wednesday, the office said.

The sheriff's office said this is the same area where a 49-year-old man went missing on June 17.
