2 lanes of northbound I-5 in southwest Washington reopen after slide closed highway for hours

WOODLAND, Wash. -- A landslide forced the closure of northbound Interstate 5 near Woodland Thursday afternoon.

"I5 northbound blocked at MP23," the Cowlitz County sheriff tweeted about the slide. "Be patient, follow signs and directions. We're working hard to get this figured out."

Two of the northbound lanes were reopened at about 9 p.m., the Washington Department of Transportation said.

The sheriff said the slide on northbound I-5 hit one vehicle (see left-hand side of picture), but no one was injured.

Washington State Dept. of Transportation crews were working to clean up the slide on I-5.

The State Patrol first reported there was also a 6- to 7-foot sinkhole in the right lane of southbound I-5 near Woodland, but later tweeted it was a "pothole" and that traffic was not impacted. Here is a photo of the potholes. Traffic is rolling over them on what is an elevated portion of I-5. The lanes were later closed so crews could fix the potholes.
