Stretch of Highway 99 in Lynnwood re-opens after man shot dead by police

LYNNWOOD, Wash. – A three-year veteran of the Lynnwood police department shot and killed a man following a confrontation along Highway 99 on Monday morning.

A stretch of the highway was closed until about 4:30 p.m. as police investigated.



Police said the incident began when a man became hostile inside a business in the 19200 block of Highway 99. They said the man ran from the business, and three Lynnwood officers found him and tried to de-escalate the situation.



They said the man ran out into the highway several times, and one officer reported the man was possibly armed with a knife or shank.

Police said the man began advancing on them, and they shot him at 9:48 a.m. after he ignored orders and advanced on them. They said a blade was found with the man.



Highway 99 was closed from 19600 to 18800 for the investigation.

The dead man was white and believed to be in his 20s, police said. His identity hasn't been released.

The SnoCo Multi-Agency Response Team was investigating.
