It's going to be wet and windy overnight and into Tuesday

SEATTLE -- Windy conditions, with showers and mountains snow, will continue overnight and into Tuesday.

The winds will pick up overnight with peak winds from 4 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday. The strongest gusts will be up north, along the Strait of Juan de Fuca, but everyone will be windy.

The mountains pick up lots of snow but the snow level changes a lot over the next seven days.  On Tuesday, it goes up to 4,500 feet but Tuesday night it drops to 2,000 feet. So plan on wintry driving conditions through the holiday weekend.

The two wettest periods will be early Tuesday and early Thursday. The rest of the time there will be some dry weather and even some sunshine on the first day of winter. The Winter Solstice is at 2:44 a.m.  Wednesday. From that point on, we gain daylight.

The National Weather Service has issued a High Wind Warning for the Puget Sound regions of Jefferson, Clallam, San Juan and Island counties from 4 a.m. until 6 p.m. Tuesday.

NWS said there will be west winds of 25 to 40 mph, with local gusts from 50 to 60 mph. The strongest winds are expected to be along the shorelines close to the Strait of Juan de Fuca.

It said the likeliest impacts are snapped tree limbs and localized power outages.

"A High Wind Warning means a hazardous high wind event is expected or occurring," the NWS said. "Sustained wind speeds of at least 40 mph or gusts of 58 mph or more can lead to property damage."
