Help Seattle Police ID thief who attacked elderly woman -- all for $7

elderlyWANTED IN SEATTLE:

Seattle detectives need your help to identify a suspect accused of assaulting an elderly woman on December 1st inside her apartment building in the International District to steal her money.

Another resident saw the attack and called 911.

The 81-year-old victim was injured but is going to be okay.

Surveillance video shows the suspect entering the victim's lobby.

"You're going to see a suspect actually breaking the lock to get in the lobby,” describes Ret. Det. Myrle Carner with Crime Stoppers of Puget Sound.

“You'll get a pretty good look at him. He's got a backpack. Very distinctive clothing, but here's what happened: She's walking in her lobby headed towards her apartment. She has a very small amount of cash in her hand.

"This guy attacks her and forces the money out of her hand. She had some change in her hand, it drops on the floor. He wrenches her wrist. It may be even fractured, and he grabs her by the throat and takes the money and takes out of the building.

"According to the people that actually live in the apartment building he's been seen in there several times, matter of fact, some of them have said that he's been sleeping in the lobby sometimes, so somebody watching this probably recognizes this guy.

"Maybe you're an apartment dweller there. Maybe you live in the community and see this guy walking back and forth. It appears he has a backpack all the time. So, please help us out, get this guy identified."

Detectives think he’s 40 to 50 years old, 5’7”, with a medium build, bald and seems to always be carrying that backpack.
