Police officer shot and wounded, suspect killed west of Salem, Oregon

DALLAS, Ore. (AP) — An officer was wounded and a suspect was killed in a shooting outside of a Walmart store in Dallas, about 15 miles west of Salem.

Authorities say three officers were conducting a DUI traffic stop at a Wal-Mart in Dallas, Oregon, when the situation escalated and one officer and a suspect were shot.

Oregon State Police Lt. Bob Charpentier said in a brief statement to news outlets Friday night that the officer was shot in the leg during the incident at about 5:45 p.m. He says the officer is expected to survive.

Charpentier did not identify the officer or suspect. It was unclear who fired the gunshots and Charpentier took no questions from the media.

According to KPTV in Portland, the Oregon State Police later confirmed that the suspect involved in the shooting died at the scene.
