Driver calls for help 12 hours after car went over Interstate 90 embankment

SNOQUALMIE PASS, Wash. -- Emergency crews have rescued a driver who was trapped in his car overnight after plunging over a snowy embankment at Snoqualmie Pass.

Washington State Patrol Trooper Rick Johnson said the car went over the embankment off Interstate 90 at about 9 p.m. Sunday and plummeted 100 feet down a steep slope.

Johnson said the driver, who was not injured, was able to call for help at about 9:30 Monday morning, but it wasn't immediately clear why the driver couldn't call for help sooner.

The driver spent the night in his vehicle.

State troopers and units from Eastside Fire and Rescue used ropes to get the driver up the slope Monday.
