With Thomas out for season, safety Steven Terrell to step up against Packers

RENTON, Wash. -- With Earl Thomas out for the rest of the season, Steven Terrell is about to get the most attention of his career as Thomas' replacement.

For the past three seasons he's been a mostly unknown reserve safety for the Seattle Seahawks. Now he's stepping up as the Seahawks get ready to head to Green Bay.

Terrell said he feels prepared having been in the system for a few years and learning from the best in the game.

He told reporters that he got the call from the Seahawks the day he was supposed to start a job training kids at a performance facility in Texas.

Terrell said he is gaining confidence as he plays: "piling reps up, critiquing little things to make my play better."

Head coach Pete Carroll expects the matchup with the Packers to be a fun one.

"When we see these guys, we only see the best they've ever had. Our guys are fired up about it," said Carroll.

Cornerback Richard Sherman said Packers QB Aaron Rodgers "makes a living on free plays, drawing guys offsides, throwing deep."

When asked about the cold Wisconsin weather, Sherman said it can't get any colder than it was last year in Minnesota, so anything will feel like an oven after that.
