Tacoma police identify officer killed in the line of duty as Reginald 'Jake' Gutierrez

TACOMA -- Tacoma police identified the officer killed in the line of duty Wednesday night as Reginald "Jake" Gutierrez. He was 45 years old.

Gutierrez was responding to a domestic violence call when he was shot multiple times by a man who ended up in a 12-hour standoff with police.

In a news conference Thursday afternoon, Tacoma's police chief called Gutierrez a model police officer. He'd been on patrol in Tacoma since 1999.

There is an outpouring of support at police headquarters where there is a growing memorial that has brought officers to tears.

One officer told Q13 News that several people offered to buy her coffee this morning while at a coffee shop.
