Heavy snow forecast for passes and ski areas beginning Sunday

SEATTLE – The mountain passes are likely to be deluged with snow Sunday, and winter will begin in the lowlands later that evening, Q13 News meteorologist Walter Kelly said.

Kelly said delays and closures could reach the passes Sunday night.

The La Nina season will begin for lowland snow Sunday as well, which means there will be periods of snow through the end of winter.

“Not all the time, but a much better chance than in recent years for sure,” Kelly said.

Snow levels should begin dropping quickly throughout the day Sunday.

Kelly said the snow is expected to be dry.
