Drowsy driver hits tree in Grays Harbor Co. injuring 6 children

MONTESANO, Wash. — A 6 and 9-year-old had to be airlifted to Harborview Medical Center when a car crashed into a tree in Grays Harbor.

Washington State Patrol troopers say the car had been driving on State Route 107 south of Montesano when the driver fell asleep, spun off the road and hit a tree.

The crash happened Saturday at 10:19 a.m.

WSP says six children and two adults inside the car were injured. All of them had to be taken to the hospital for treatment.

The children ranged in age from 11 months to 12 years.

The driver, 28-year-old Norma Tapia-Valdivias has been charged with negligent driving in the second degree.
