HOUSTON — A former middle school teacher who was impregnated by a 13-year-old student has pleaded guilty to aggravated sexual assault of a child.

Alexandria Vera entered her plea on Wednesday. The plea deal will lower her minimum sentence to five years, which means she may receive little or no time in prison.

Vera has said she and the 8th-grader are in love and the boy’s parents are accepting of the relationship. The boy is currently in foster care.

Vera was an eighth grade English teacher at Stovall Middle School in Aldine ISD.  According to court documents, she met the student during summer school last year. The two started flirting, and by September, they were having sex, NewsFix Houston reported. And, she said, his parents were allegedly “accepting of their relationship,” even inviting her to family gatherings.

Vera told Aldine ISD police that she had sex with the teen “on almost a daily basis at her home.”  He would allegedly sleep at her house and then she’d drive him back home in the morning so he could catch the bus to school.

In January 2016, Vera became pregnant, court records show. She allegedly told the teen’s family about the pregnancy, and they were “supportive and excited” about the baby.

However, Vera claims she ended up having an abortion after CPS unexpectedly showed up at school in February to question her about the relationship.

Vera denied any wrongdoing at the time, but police say they found evidence of the relationship on her cell phone.

She is set to be sentenced in January.
