Snow accumulation up to 6 inches forecast in mountain passes today

It’s officially that time of the year.

The mountain passes are expected to get their first snow of the season Tuesday night, as snow showers that began at 4,500 feet in the morning drop as the day wears on, Q13 News meteorologist Walter Kelley said.

Kelley said the snow level will hit between 3,000-3,500 feet in the afternoon before finally reaching about 2,500 feet in the evening.

There could be 2-6 inches of accumulated snow by the end of the evening, Kelley said.

A winter-weather advisory was issued for the Olympic mountains and the Cascades in Whatcom and Skagit counties.
