Police arrest woman, 64, accused of setting Kent dollar store on fire

KENT, Wash. -- Police arrested a 64-year-old woman accused of walking into a Kent dollar store and setting it on fire.

Several businesses in the strip mall on Pacific Highway South were destroyed in the fire. The roof of the building collapsed after it caught fire around 3 p.m. Sunday.

Witnesses told investigators that a woman had walked into the dollar store and threatened to burn the place down. They said she walked down the greeting cards aisle and moments later she walked out of the store saying it was on fire.

Arson investigators and police took the woman into custody. She is being held on $225,000 bail.

Nobody was hurt. Seventy-five firefighters were called to the three-alarm fire.

Crews remained at the scene Monday morning as hot spots continued to burn.

The suspect waved her first court appearance on Monday and is due back in court on Wednesday.

The woman has not yet been officially charged, so Q13 News is not naming her.
