Police arrest 22-year-old man for vandalism during anti-Trump riot in Portland

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — Portland police have arrested a 20-year-old man in connection with vandalism during a protest against President-elect Donald Trump last Thursday night.

Portland Police said in a news release they arrested Mateen Abdul Shaheed on Tuesday at a home about 30 miles southeast of Portland in Estacada.

Police say Shaheed was involved in numerous acts of vandalism during a protest-turned-riot, including damaging vehicles at Toyota dealership.

According to KPTV in Portland, police had received numerous tips that identified Shaheed as the suspect from photos of destruction during the post-election riot in Portland on Thursday. One photo allegedly showed Shaheed smashing the rear window of a car at Toyota of Portland.

Police say Shaheed was booked into Multnomah County Jail on six counts of criminal mischief.

The arrest comes after police and prosecutors put photos of violent protesters online and asked the public to help identify them.
