31-year-old man arrested in connection with armed robbery at Smokin J's smoke shop in Olympia

OLYMPIA, Wash. -- A 31-year-old man has been arrested for a Nov. 3 armed robbery at  Smokin J’s smoke shop in Olympia, it was reported Tuesday.

The Olympian said the suspect was caught last Friday after an anonymous tipster identified him from store security footage.

The newspaper said the suspect appeared in Thurston County Superior Court on Monday and the judge found probable cause for a charge of first-degree robbery while armed with a deadly weapon. Bail was set at $50,000.

The man has not been formally charged with a crime yet, so he is not being identified by Q13 News.

Earlier this month, Olympia police released surveillance images of the man that employees say walked into the store as if he were going to buy something. But when he got to the register, he pulled a gun from his sweatshirt and pointed it at the clerk’s head.

“He was just saying, 'Hurry up, don’t look at me,'” said Xavier Spearman, the store clerk who came face-to-face with the man. “He was very impatient and pressuring to get the money and then he said, ‘OK, don’t look at me’ and then he walked right out.”
