Suspect in Portland food-cart break-ins is nabbed

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) _ Police investigating a rash of food-cart burglaries in Portland have made an arrest, thanks to the tracking of a cell phone stolen at one of the carts.

Portland police say that on Thursday night, officers responding to a report of a food cart prowler on North Killingsworth Street discovered that several food carts had been broken into, with a cell phone among stolen items.

Police said Monday that cell-tracking tips from the victim led them to Mississippi Gateway Food Carts, where they arrested Charles Johnson, 32. He was jailed for criminal mischief in the second degree while burglary investigations into the Hungaricana food carts on Killingsworth Street are ongoing.

Johnson was also charged in the Nov. 1 break-in of the Sherpa Nirvana at the 42nd Ave Food Carts.
