Seattle cop who punched handcuffed woman fired

SEATTLE -- The Seattle police officer who was caught on video punching a handcuffed woman in 2014 has been fired.

Officer Adley Shepherd was one of three officers who responded to a domestic violence call on June 22, 2014. During the call, a 23-year-old Miyekko Durden-Bosley became combative and was handcuffed.

When Shepard tried to put her into his car, Durden-Bosley kicked him, and he responded with several punches which broke her eye socket and gave her a concussion.

"The decision to end one’s employment is not easy, and it is one I take very seriously," said  Chief Kathleen O'Toole. "After much deliberation, based on the substantial evidence presented to me during this very comprehensive process, I believe this is the right decision for the Seattle Police Department and the community we serve."

Over the last two years, the incident was investigated by the Washington State Patrol, the Federal Bureau of Investigation and Office of Professional Accountability.

Shepherd was placed on home assignment following the incident.

Criminal charges were not filed against Shepherd.

The King County Prosecutor’s Offices said December 2014 that evidence showed the officer acted professionally and with restraint until he was kicked in the head.

Earlier this year, Durden-Bosley settled a lawsuit with the city and Shepherd for $195,000.
