Crash closes Martin Luther King Jr. Way in Seattle

SEATTLE - Martin Luther King Jr. Way S. was closed early Friday morning in both directions while Seattle police investigated a crash near S. Cloverdale Street.

A driver hit a pole between the light rail tracks around 4:45 a.m.  Seattle Fire tweeted that the driver was seriously hurt and being treated at Harborview Medical Center.  Lanes re-opened in both directions about three hours later.

The crash also disrupted light rail service in the area.  No trains were running between the Othello and Angle Lake stations, and Sound Transit warned commuters might see delays on other routes during the morning.

It was the second crash to shut down MLK Jr. Way S. in the past week.  On Tuesday, a deadly crash closed the road for more than sixteen hours.

Seattle police said a speeding driver hit a power pole near Beacon Avenue South just before midnight on Monday.

Seattle City Light crews had to replace the power pole before the road could fully re-open.  The Traffic Collision Investigation Squad is still looking for anyone who may have seen Monday's crash happen.
