Deadly crash that split car in half shuts down major street in south Seattle



SEATTLE -- A deadly crash that left a car split in half has shut down a major road in Seattle.

One person died in the overnight crash in the south Seattle neighborhood of Rainier Valley. The crash happened just after midnight in the 9100 block of Martin Luther King, Jr. Way S.

Seattle police say the car hit a pole -- splitting the car in two. Half of the car stopped at the utility pole while the other half traveled 100 feet further down the road.



No other passengers or cars were involved. The driver, a man in his twenties, died at the scene.

Northbound lanes of  were expected to be closed until at least 9 p.m. Tuesday. The closure is from Boeing Access to Henderson Rd.

It's unclear what may have caused the crash.
