Officer rescues toddler from homeless camp in Auburn

AUBURN, Wash. -- A police officer took a 14-month-old girl to a hospital after finding her at a homeless camp in a Seattle suburb.

Auburn police officer Andrew Lindgren found the girl while responding to a domestic violence call Wednesday morning.

The officer said the toddler was surrounded by drug paraphernalia and filth in the camp along the Green River in Auburn.

Police say Lindgren took the girl to a hospital to make sure she was OK before state officials with Child Protective Services picked her up.

Auburn police shared the story on their Facebook page:

"Our men and women may act tough but deep down, not only are they peacekeepers but they too are moms/dads/sisters/brothers/sons/daughters at the end of the day.

This morning, when called out to a DV in progress at a homeless encampment, Officer Lindgren came across a little girl approximately 14 months in age who was apparently living at the camp. Surrounded in filth and drug paraphernalia, Officer Lindgren brought the little girl into the hospital for a quick check up to make sure she was alright before CPS came out to pick her up. Thank you Officer Lindgren for taking the time to comfort her!"
