Lakewood School District cancels classes Wednesday as deputies investigate threat
MARYSVILLE, Wash. -- Snohomish County deputies are investigating a threat made to a Lakewood Middle School student Wednesday morning on social media.
Administrators with the Lakewood School District #306 canceled school for Oct. 12 as a precaution.
The student showed his parents a threatening message about a school shooting. His parents then notified the district who reported the threat to the sheriff's office.
Deputies are working to obtain a search warrant to identify the source of the threat. Authorities said they would be on site at the schools.
Here is the message from the school district:
"This morning, we put the Lakewood School District in lockdown as a precautionary measure due to a threat that a LMS student received to “stay home because someone was going to shoot up the middle school.” In response to this threat, we are cancelling school today October 12, 2016. Law enforcement is on site and looking into this threat. We have sent a message to all of our bus drivers to return students home, and will be going to the bus routes that were not picked up yet to tell students to return home.
If you transport your students to school, please keep them home today. If your students are already at school, please know that they are with staff in a safe location. Once law enforcement tells us it is safe to do so, we will be contacting the families of all students on campus to inform you of the best time and location to pick up your students.
Again, this lockdown is a precaution and at this time no students or staff are in immediate danger."
