BELLINGHAM, Wash. — On a 7-0 vote Tuesday night, the Whatcom County Council approved an ordinance to treat vaping products and e-cigarettes the same as traditional cigarettes, banning their use in bars, restaurants and other public places throughout the county.

The ban will include their use at indoor workplaces and non-tribal casinos and bowling alleys. Vaping within 25 feet of the doors and windows of public places or businesses would also be prohibited.

Public health officials have said the ban was needed because of health risks and increased use of vaping products by youths.
