Washington breaks single-day voter registration record for second day in a row

OLYMPIA, Wash. -- Voter registrations in Washington have hit a new one-day record for the second day in a row.

The secretary of state's office said Tuesday that on Monday 27,601 people registered to vote online. That broke the record set the previous day, when 23,167 people signed up.

More than 4.2 million people are now registered in the state.

While Monday was the deadline for online and mail-in applications, because it was a federal holiday, the state county auditors will honor mailed registrations that have a Tuesday postmark. People are able to register in person through Oct. 31.

Ballots will be mailed to in-state voters starting next week. Military and overseas voters previously received their ballots and are already voting.
